The babies of Hollywood stars will soon be bathing in a tub designed and sold by a mom-preneur from London.
Brandy Cameron designed Spa Baby, a bathtub that lets infants sit up as they bathe.
Cameron, who now lives in Kitchener, launched the product just before Christmas and persuaded some Toys “R” Us outlets and independent retailers to carry the Spa Baby.
She recently caught a big break as she planned to move into the U.S. market. Last month Jayneoni Moore, a Hollywood fashion maven who puts together baby gift baskets for celebrities, contacted her.
The Spa Baby will be included in the latest Hollywood Baby Hot Bag that will go to celebrity moms Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Halle Berry — and dads Matthew McConaughey and Christopher Noth, among others.
Cameron grew up in north London and graduated from Central secondary school before moving on to McGill University and a series of corporate jobs.
When she became a mom she found her two children didn’t like the usual flat baby bath.
“When I laid them down on their back they hated it. It’s an exposed position and they get cold quickly.”
Cameron found that European-style baby baths had a vertical design that allows babies to sit up and be surrounded by warm water up to their shoulders.
“It’s sort of instinctual. The baby settles down right away so that makes bath time easy,” she said.
Cameron said the product is selling well. The tub is available locally at the Children’s Furniture Gallery, 270 Adelaide St. It can also be ordered on www.spababytubs.com.
