Eighteen months ago, Bree Litrop gave birth to her first child, a bouncing baby girl named Kaitlyn.
With Kaitlyn now walking and learning to talk, Litrop is ready to give birth again - to a brand new business.
The 33-year-old teacher is launching Bite-size Delights Cheesecake Co. from her west-end home.
That makes her a “mompreneur” - a mom who has opted out of the daily 9-to-5 grind in favour of a home-based small business that allows for hands-on motherhood.
Litrop’s entrepreneurial inspiration came in December, when she was invited to a neighbourhood bake exchange.
For the occasion, Litrop baked a mouth-watering batch of chocolate-covered cheesecake squares.
Much to her delight, the delectable dessert was a hit at the party.
And suddenly, Litrop had an idea.
“Everyone loves dessert. Everyone loves cheesecake. So I thought, why not make bite-size cheesecakes that people can enjoy?
“Instead of buying huge slabs of cheesecake and then feeling really full after, this way I figured you can buy a few and enjoy them and not feel guilty,” she explained.
Litrop’s husband, Dan, immediately put his support behind the stay-at-home venture.
“My husband says my baking’s better than my cooking,” she said with a laugh.
