A Greater Sudbury new mom who had trouble finding a shoe to give proper support to her young son’s ankle last year, she had to go all the way to Barrie to find the high-top walking leather shoes her specialist called for.
The shoes, which were needed to help prevent any future foot problems, offered good ankle support yet were soft enough to allow the ankle to move freely.
Corriveau then got a brainstorm: why not open up a store that offers those hard-to-find items for babies, toddlers and youngsters save other local moms from having to travel?
That’s exactly what Corriveau, 24, and her sister, Tania Simon, 19, did last October. Their new business, Kids in Style, initially featured unique children’s clothing lines such as Timberland, Petit Lem, C’est La Vie, OshKosh B’Gosh, Coccoli and Gusti. The Me Too, Babeskin and Dudeskin, and Blu lines have since been added. The Masaccio line is the next up to be added.
“We have up to size 16,” said Corriveau. “We go right from preemie sizes up to size 16 which can fit a 13-14-year old. We were originally up to size seven and right away we were getting parents asking for bigger sizes.”
The store isn’t just about clothing. There’s also accessories such as shoes, raincoats, blankets, and even baby seats.
Shopping at Kids in Style means not having to worry about another child wearing the same outfit you purchased.
“We have one of a size of everything,” said Simon.
“You know your kid is going to be the only one wearing it,” added Corriveau.
Expect to pay a little more at Kids in Style, but the prices reflect the quality and workmanship that goes into the items, say the sisters.
