Port Moody Blanket Business Has Babies Covered

The Province:

What do you do?

I make personalized fleece baby blankets. I use high-quality waffle fleece that doesn’t pill, and I make two sizes — one regular baby-blanket size and a mini-size teething blanket. Both sizes have ribbons sewn along the edges for the babies to chew on. I make them to order so customers can choose the colours, letter size and placement to make the blankets the way they want them.

How did you get into this business?

When I was pregnant, we knew I was having twin girls and I wanted them each to have their special blanket with their names on them. I didn’t know how to sew — I took it in high school, but that was it — but I sewed these fleece blankets for our daughters, and everywhere we went, people would come and ask where they could buy them.

What do you like best about your business?

I like the freedom of working from home, being a mom and still keeping my hand in something creative.

What is most challenging?

Not letting the business become a full-time job. My full-time job is being a mom, but the business is starting to take off. I try to do it only when the girls are in preschool or sleeping.
