Moms Moving Into Business

The Geelong Advertiser:

Mother, author and businesswoman Sonia Williams believes home-based businesses run by women represent “the coming of a new age”.

The creator of Show Mummy the Money, which Williams published herself, and the new book Raising a Business is at the forefront of a new wave of parents looking to capitalise on niche market segments and the increasing ability to work via the internet.

She’s made a name _ along with several dollars and a growing empire _ for herself advising women on how to start and succeed with their own home-based businesses.

Ms Williams herself was once a struggling businesswoman making the kind of mistakes she now wants to help newcomers avoid.

“You can’t risk running the boat up the beach, so to speak, when you’re starting a business and you’re a mum. You’ve got to get it right the first time,” Ms Williams said.

“Business roles have been really male-dominated in the last decade but I think the trend is slowly turning.

“I think the next generation of mums will be starting more and more businesses.”
