Mosaics is an exquisite concept in art featuring the dynamic mother and daughter pair Margaret and Vanessa Dalla Costa.
These women plan to capture the hearts of patrons with vivid depictions of flora and fauna in ceramic tile.”Inspiration for our mosaics come from all around us.” said the 57-year-old mother Margaret with a demure smile.
With Vanessa at her side listening intensely the graceful and talented designer spoke about the patience which was imperative for the intricate snips of glass and pottery that make up mosaic art.
Outspoken and self assured 33-year-old Vanessa revealed that she started art when she saw her mother involved with mosaics.
“Mother had a ceramics factory and I did a small mosaic piece of two macaws for a local competition at put on by See Rique Ceramics from Carenage Stollmeyers Castle, I won ‘best everything’ and I eventually sold the plaque.”
Margaret thinks the internet and books store are a wealth of information for when she is not as inspired to design as part of her days work. The ladies use a wide variety of materials including tile, glass and clay. They have been creating and painting ceramics for the past seven years and each piece is custom designed for the client to their individual taste. Mother and daughter insist on a ‘hands on’ approach and they will travel to wherever the client actually wants the mosaic installed to do it themselves.
“We get down on our hands and knees to spread tinset in the bottom of pools sometimes, or on other occasions we personally supervise workers to ensure work is delivered on time and within budget,” said Vanessa.
