Last month, Bunmi Zalob sold BusinessMom.net on eBay for $3,050. At the time of the sale, we ran an interview I did with Bunmi. Today, we have a brief chat with the new owner, Janice Clark.
You recently purchased BusinessMom.net. What attracted you the website?
I love the idea of being able to help develop a professional networking site for moms. BusinessMom.net allows professional moms everywhere to network, market themselves and create professional as well as personal relationships with others.
Have you purchased a existing website on eBay before?
No, I have never purchased a business on eBay before. This was truly a unique way of promoting this business.
What was the purchase process like with BusinessMom.net?
Once I realized the site was up for sale I did some research to find out how the site had been marketed in the past and what it’s projected growth rate looked like. I realized what a wonderful opportunity this was so I watched the progress of the bids throughout the week and then placed the winning bid just before the bidding ended. After I purchased the site Bunmi emailed me to introduce herself. We then scheduled a time to talk and begin the transition from her to me.
I noticed that the bidding really went crazy there at the end. How much did you pay for the site?
The bidding did get crazy at the end but I was fortunate enough to have a bidding strategy in mind and not place a bid until the last few seconds. BusinessMom would have been a bargain at any price.
What are you plans for the site in the next 90 days?
I have quite a few plans over the next 90 days. My goal at BusinessMom.net is to become the leading online networking community for Professional Moms. I envision a dynamic community of women coming together to share resources, support friends, build their businesses and be Moms. I envision BusinessMom.net as not only a meeting place but a source of information and resources as well. I have already been approached by several mompreneurs who own successful businesses. We’re discussing the possibility of teleseminars for members as well as networking events where moms can ask questions, share ideas and get to know each other.
You have a company called Team Double Click.
What does your company do? How do you see BusinessMom.net fitting into your professional goals? Team Double-ClickSM is actually not my company. I’ve worked there for almost a year and a half. It’s a virtual staffing agency that provides virtual solutions to bricks and mortar offices. I work there as their Virtual Services Manager. My job is to support and train clients and contractors as they transition into working virtually. The owner, Gayle Buske, has been very supportive in my desire to purchase my own business. Part of my role at Team Double-ClickSM has been to help make other people’s businesses successful. I intend to continue that tradition at BusinessMom.net by providing opportunities for networking, providing resources for professional and personal growth and encouraging moms to help each other.
How’d you get into the business? What’s your background?
I have a degree in Business Management and have spent the past 13 years managing others and guiding them towards personal as well as professional growth. A few years ago I began searching for something that would offer me the opportunity for professional growth while enabling me to be home to take care of my family. I found Double-ClickSM . I realized very quickly that one of my favorite things about my job has been helping others succeed. I enjoy helping clients and contractors grow their businesses and connect with others. When BusinessMom.net went up for sale I felt that this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I have truly enjoyed meeting others who are driven and passionate about living their dreams and I hope to meet many more just like them in the years to come. Traditionally moms are the people who give to everyone else. I’d like to give something back to them.
Do you have any advice for our WAHM readers?
“Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never, never-in nothing great or small, large or petty-never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”
~Winston ChurchillThis is one of my favorite quotes and I truly believe it.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today.
Thanks for emailing me! I loved doing an interview with you.
