MorningSun.net:

Donna Benedict, formerly Brynds, has been sewing since the age of 5.

She began sewing for people when she was in high school.

Benedict has had her shop, Donna’s Sewing Room, for just over a month and she said the response has been great.

She has done alterations for a local bridal store for the past 14 years, and needed to open her own shop because of the volume of work she was receiving.

“It has just outgrown my house,” Benedict said. “I felt like I needed to expand here in Pittsburg.”

A resident of Scammon, Benedict said most of her customers were from Pittsburg, so it made sense to open her shop downtown.

She said she loves owning her own shop because of the freedom it provides.

“It allows me to be a mom,” she said. “And when you sit here and you sew, it is peaceful. I just love to sit here and sew.”

Owning her own shop allows Benedict to bring her son and daughter to work.

Benedict can embroider, make alterations, window treatments and sew. She can also take a business logo or an image on a computer and embroider it on a hat, jacket, shirt or any other type of fabric.

“I do a lot of formal wear, just because that is what I am known for,” Benedict said. “But I have made clothes for people, I have made quilts and different things.”
