Sadly, single moms are left to wear many different hats, fulfill many responsibilities and encounter many different obstacles. “As single moms, we find ourselves, alone, afraid, ashamed, overworked, sleep deprived, discouraged and often under appreciated and stereotyped.” explains Christina Nolan, owner and author at ‘Refuge for a Single Mom’. “As a single mom myself, for over 14 years now, it has become increasingly obvious that single moms need a place, a refuge so to speak, where they can learn, grow, fellowship and make friends in a safe and encouraging environment.” Nolan said. “As an internet business woman, I spend quite a bit of time online, networking and socializing, but have never found an online community receptive to my needs as a single mom. It is my passion that ‘Refuge for a Single Mom’ can be that place for the many women that so desperately need it.”
Originally, ‘Refuge for a Single Mom’ began as an inspirational blog and has evolved into a website, complete with online community, devotionals and resource materials. Also, just in time for its six month anniversary celebration, ‘Refuge for a Single Mom’ will be introducing their custom designed, promotional gear. Unlike most promotional items available, these items will feature inspirational Bible verses pertaining to ‘refuge’, in an effort to remind these remarkable women that they are not alone in their journeys.
When asked about her vision for ‘Refuge for a Single Mom’, Nolan explained, “I have been a single mom for the better part of my adult life. It has not been easy and I have learned a great deal. I have a sincere respect for my fellow single moms and a deep yearning to provide as much hope, encouragement and empowerment as one person can.”
