Although there have been a few bumps in the road, Angela Clarkston loves life. The Broussard mother and small business owner has lived in the area her entire life.
After graduating from New Iberia Senior High School in 1988, Clarkston went to work at Martin Mills. She said that career path wasn’t fulfilling to her, so she went back to school. In 1996, she became a cosmetologist.
“Hair has always been my thing. It is my passion,” Clarkston said. “My daddy used to hide the curling iron from me because I curled my hair so much.”
After Clarkston received her cosmetology license, she went to work for a national chain salon for seven years.
In 2003, Clarkston opened Angela’s Hair Studio in Broussard, where she rents booth space to six local stylists. There were many people who inspired her to open her own business, and she said God played a huge part in it.
Clarkston said her mother’s four-time battle with cancer also played a role in her success.
“She has been my will to go on,” she said.
