Northwest Asian Weekly:

When Cause Haun decided to start a children’s shoe company, her goal was to earn an extra couple hundred dollars a month to help pay for airfare to China. Little did she know that her line of hip, comfortable and affordable shoes would grow rapidly, experiencing 400 percent growth between 2005 and ’06, and create buzz in online mommy chat rooms nationwide.

See Kai Run, her Woodinville-based company, creates stylish and comfy shoes that protect the feet of kids 6 months to 3 years old. Haun said she had difficulty finding cool-looking shoes for her own son, Kai, as he began taking his first steps. “At the time, you couldn’t find unique shoes with good pricing,” Haun said.

Believing that other mothers had to be facing the same problem, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

After extensive research in the business, the couple placed their first order of shoes with a manufacturer in 2004 and Haun began peddling their product to shops in her native Seattle.

Since then, Haun has sold a variety of shoe styles to online retailers and shops all across the country, while Chen maintains a relationship with their manufacturer in China.

See Kai Run shoes continue to be handcrafted with super-soft sheepskin and breathable lining to allow for the healthy growth of little feet. Soles are constructed with flexible, nonslip thermoplastic rubber to maintain support while being durable enough for outdoor wear.
