Worchester Telegram & Gazette News:
Dressed in jeans, a smart fuchsia blazer and a pink button-down shirt, Joyce Dorny looks like a creative type from Madison Avenue. Even though she is rubbing elbows with quite a few of them these days as she gets ready to publish her nationally distributed magazine, nothing could be further from the truth.
Mrs. Dorny, 40, of Northboro, went public with the launch of her glossy, Organize Magazine, today. Armed with only an idea, some seed money, a firm belief in her idea and the support of friends and family, Mrs. Dorny has turned a dream into a reality. The first issue is scheduled to hit newsstands in mid-June.
With a background in organization and storage retail, Mrs. Dorny wanted to start a business around her passion of freeing people from clutter. A self-proclaimed magazine junkie, she turned to different ones for ideas and advice but found that while many had sections dedicated to organizing there wasn’t one solely focused on it.
“I had this moment of clarity that I could start a magazine,” she said. Despite never having worked in publishing, she educated herself by reading books, asking lots of questions and seeking mentors. “It never occurred to me that I didn’t know anything about magazine publishing. I just knew what I did and didn’t like. I decided I want this more than I am afraid of it.”
