Author Makes Super Heroes Out Of Moms

Tonawanda News:

Once Melanie Hauser’s two sons reached school age, the stay-at-home mother found herself with extra time.

The Ben Davis High School graduate and Indianapolis native didn’t have any specific career she wanted to go back to. So she seized the opportunity to write books, something she’s always loved.

Fast forward several years, and Hauser is now the author of two successful books, Confessions of Super Mom and the recently-published Super Mom Saves the World.

Hauser’s journey from homemaker to author wasn’t exactly easy. She wrote three novels before “Super Mom that weren’t published. The first one, she said, was truly bad. The next two were good enough to attract literary representation. Both were submitted to major publishers but never quite sealed a deal.

“It’s just not easy to get a book sold these days, Hauser said during a recent phone interview. “It’s not just an editor who has to sign off on it — it’s a whole marketing committee. It’s really the accountants (who) have taken over. It’s a risk, and they have to decide that they’re either going to make a lot of money on this or they won’t. If they don’t think they will, they won’t publish it.
